Crawlers’ next workout — Wednesday, Dec. 23, 6:30 a.m. at Carter Barron

Greetings all!

Turnout will probably be light this week because folks are already splitting town.

I’m thinking the track will still be snowed under or icy or soaked, so how about we meet at the Carter Barron area? The usual spot there — the lot next to the tennis stadium off 16th Street. We could do a couple of hills or maybe repeats on the roughly 600 meter path around the field. Or, if the footing is too lousy for intervals, we’ll do a group run somewhere around there.

We’ll return to the track next week, although I’m guessing lots of folks will still be gone.

I’ll be organizing the next few workouts — I’ve got some ideas brewing, including a trip to the 1970s, and suggestions are welcome! Happy holidays to everyone.

Best Places to Carbo Load in DC: A Crawler Survey

Ok, Crawlers – what are the three best places to Carbo load in DC –

My choices reveal a bias of proximity to home:

1) Dupont Italian Kitchen Bar (17th and R) – great quantity, great service, good price

2) Otello’s (Dupont Circle) – a little fancier fare, but goodness the food is fantastic and you gotta love the checkered table cloths.

3) Buca di peppo (Dupont Circle) – pure quantity!

Wednesday’s Workout (Chipotle 6:20) – Holiday Lights at the Zoo; Races this weekend – Jingle and Figgy!

G’day everybody,

This Wednesday, let’s plan to meet at the Woodley Park at 6:20 and then we can head up to the zoo to see the Holiday lights!

A couple races are coming up this week –

Sunday, Dec – Jingle Bell 10k – a big race right before holiday vacations.  There’s a team opportunity. We must have at least 4 runners with at least one runner being a different gender.

Saturday, Dec 12 – Figgy Pudding 5k in Fells Point, Baltimore.  A fun 5k in Fells Point, see the holiday lights, and have a Guinnes when you’re done!

Hope everyone had an opportunity to run outside this morning and see the snow!

Cherry Blossom is April 11th! Lottery Registration begins 12/1!

Cherry Blossom 10 Miler is one of DC’s most popular races!  It is held during the brief 3-4 week window when the Cherry trees are in blossom! It also celebrates the Cherry Blossom festival and the gift of the cherry blossom trees to US from Japan.

The course is blossomrific as one can see blossoms around the Tidal Basin, Hains Point, and by the Potomac River!

It’s also historically one of the most difficult races to get into.  In prior years, I would pretend to be working and secretly have my mouse on the ready – so once online registration went live, Lauren and I would be two of the lucky ones to get in.   You see, the 10,000 entries would be filled up in less than 3 hours.

Well, either employers didn’t value this use of our time or those who do not sit idly at their cubes voiced their opposition of feeling left out and the registration process has changed!

So this year, people will have a 10 day window to register for the lottery.  From the lottery, people will be selected to run the race.   One can register for the race from  10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009.   The registration website is https://secure.marathonguide.com/register/CherryBlossom10Mile/

We’re hoping enough crawlers can register so we can have one or two teams!
